Creamy, Cheesy Cabbage That Melts in Your Mouth

Ingredients

  • 1 large green cabbage, cut into 8 wedges (keep core intact)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil, divided
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, divided
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced (optional)
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened and cubed
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1/2 tsp salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a large baking dish or oven-safe skillet.
  2. Cut cabbage into 8 wedges, keeping the core so wedges stay together. Pat dry.
  3. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil and 2 tbsp butter in skillet over medium-high heat. Sear cabbage wedges 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  4. Transfer wedges to baking dish.
  5. In same skillet, add remaining 1 tbsp oil and 1 tbsp butter. Sauté onion 2 minutes, add garlic 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Reduce heat to medium-low. Add cream cheese, heavy cream, and chicken broth. Whisk until smooth and creamy.
  7. Stir in 3/4 cup Parmesan, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Simmer 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  8. Pour sauce evenly over cabbage wedges. Spoon sauce between layers.
  9. Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan on top.
  10. Bake uncovered 20-25 minutes until cabbage is tender and sauce is bubbling.
  11. Broil 2-3 minutes for golden crispy top. Watch closely.
  12. Rest 5 minutes, garnish with parsley, serve warm.
